A word so small shouldn't feel quite so ominous. A few years ago, it wouldn't have. Owen wouldn't have given this a second thought, would have been so confident in his own success that he might've already agreed and started preparing his lab space in the basement for it.
There's a lot to say about what dying does to a person.
And it's not that Owen thinks he's not capable of determining whether or not something he synthesizes is lethal-- he's no novice-- but he wonders if this is a bit like Tosh stepping in front of Copley's gun instead of him, as ridiculous as it might seem.
"Why?" he asks her, leaning in, "You've got some idea of what could happen if I don't manage to get it right. Why risk it?"
